How to Get Where You're Going with a Good Plan

A good plan for the week starts on Monday and has two parts:

☝️ The three most important things you’ll get done this week to make it easier to achieve your goal.
✌️ The three things you will get done today, Monday, that will make it easier to have a successful week.

That’s it.

People often complicate planning, thinking it requires expensive project management software, some fancy new task management app, or PhD in Gantt charting to organize their thinking.

This over-complication transforms into an excuse for not planning—for working in disorganized chaos—for living a busy but unproductive life.

But here’s the thing:

A goal without a plan is just a wish.
— Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

In reality, a good weekly plan requires only a pen, paper, and five minutes of forward thinking.

You might not be able to get it all done. You will almost surely get interrupted. But at least you’ll start off on the right foot and in the right direction.

Yogi Berra once said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.”

Put simply, this seems obvious. So today, this Monday, do something about it. Spend five minutes and plan out the three things you will get done this week, and the three things you will get done today to get you where you’re going.
